Our people - Katharina and Malin
Over the years we have had various people work for us - some long term, some short term, some Australian and some overseas residents. From time to time we have posted details about their lives and time here.
In 2020 we sadly said farewell to two people who had been here over quite some periods of time. Here is a little about them, and where they are now.
Katharina Schambach first arrived here in March 2017. She originally was only going to stay for 7 weeks but three and a half years later she was still here. In that time she travelled to New Zealand, around parts of Australia and even returned home to Germany (but like a faithful sheepdog - she just kept returning). Many of our family, friends and especially clients know the impact she had on us and how her attention to detail, intelligence and work ethic helped our operation immensely. She also completed the Hay Inc Rural Education program where she was that year’s winner of the auspicious Mathew Vick Scholarship Award.
Katharina however decided it was time to get some letters after her name and on a very sad day last September we said goodbye as she headed back to Munich on a one way ticket. She has nearly completed her first year of a degree in Computational Engineering and we stay in constant contact with her.
We wish her well, miss her and can’t wait to see her back her at some stage.
Malin Wahlfridsson arrived at Keri-Keri in October 2017 and stayed until early 2018 when she returned to her homeland of Sweden. Upon leaving she told us she would be back within 6 months however a few years went by before that happened. In February 2020 though, Malin returned with the intent of completing around 4-6 months’ work with us. Covid-19 promptly arrived and with any travel plans difficult to make and being needed here Malin remained with us for 7 months. She was an instrumental part of our small little home team that joined Andrew and Katharina in getting most of our lamb marking, side sampling, ram classing, muscle scanning and trough cleaning done. In September Malin moved from us to Bendigo where she lives with her partner Mat, completed some online study and commenced retail work. When the Covid-19 borders permit we catch-up with her and Mat. We hope she can stay in Australia indefinitely.
With all the challenges of 2020 and the Covid-19 lockdowns we could not have wished for a better pair to have faced that time with. They will always be part of our family and also makes it interesting when Germany are playing Sweden in the World Cup.
